Biography

I’m an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta and a forensic psychologist in private practice in Edmonton, Alberta, where I have worked in the field of violence risk assessment and management. Over the past 25 years, I have worked in forensic psychiatric hospitals and outpatient clinics, and federal corrections. For seven years, I provided risk management training and consultation to law enforcement and child protective services as the forensic psychologist assigned to a specialized provincial police unit (Integrated Threat and Risk Assessment Centre: ITRAC) dedicated to managing high-risk intimate partner abusers in the community. Since 2018, I have been in private practice providing violence risk management consultation to Crown prosecutors, defence counsel, child protection services, law enforcement, and private employers. I regularly testify as an expert in violence risk assessment and management in family and criminal courts. Also, it has been my privilege to be a member of the Optimizing Risk Assessment for Domestic Violence (ORA-DV) research group, a team of researchers in Alberta and Ontario, since 2015, and to serve on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Threat Assessment and Management since 2017.
