Description of Event:
How can treatment providers use risk and need assessments to improve treatment outcomes for men with a history of sexual offending?  Although men who receive sex crime specific treatment are less likely to reoffend than those who don’t, little is known about the necessary elements of effective treatment.  In this presentation Dr. Cortoni will review what is known about the “black box” of treatment and introduce a model treatment program developed through extensive consultation with international experts. This program will be rigorously evaluated in the Mosiac Project, a three-stage, multi-site research collaboration.  In this presentation, Dr. Cortoni provides an overview of the Mosiac project, with a specific focus on how their recommended assessment package informs treatment and progress monitoring.

Franca Cortoni is one of the leaders in the field of sexual recidivism assessment and treatment. She recently retired as Professor of Forensic Psychology, School of Criminology at the Université de Montréal where she worked since 2007.  Her current professional activities focus on international training and the development of  intervention programs for men and women with a history of sexual offending.
