Static/BARR-2002R
Overview
Static-2002R is an actuarial risk assessment tool designed to estimate risk of sexual recidivism among adult males who have been convicted for a sexually motivated offence. It includes 14 items organized into 5 domains (age, persistence of sexual offending, deviant sexual interests, relationship to victims, and general criminality). It can be scored based on criminal history information (interview not required). It adds unique information in predicting sexual recidivism above and beyond Static-99R.
BARR-2002R is an actuarial risk tool that assesses risk for violent and general (any) recidivism among those with a sex offence conviction, which is information not provided by Static-99R. Once Static-2002R is scored, BARR-2002R total scores can be computed from a subset of Static-2002R items (no additional information is required).

Policy and Practice
Although similar in content to Static-99R (some items are even identical), it is a separate tool that requires training. Training for BARR-2002R is subsumed in Static-2002R training.
Like Static-99R, Static-2002R provides a long-term baseline estimate of risk based on static risk factors and can be used at any stage of decision-making. However, Static-2002R (and the included BARR-2002R) are particularly useful for evaluations that are concerned about risk for violent and general recidivism in addition to sexual recidivism, or for high-stakes evaluations (e.g., civil commitment or indeterminate incarceration), where multiple risk tools should be used.
For more comprehensive assessments of recidivism risk, it should be combined with a tool assessing dynamic risk factors, such as the STABLE-2007.
