In this exercise, you will work through the steps necessary to complete a STABLE-2007, and ACUTE-2007 assessment. All the required information is below.
Overall, the total STABLE-2007 score should be within two points of our scoring. If you are beyond that range, you may be scoring too harshly or too softly and should adjust your STABLE-2007 scores accordingly.

From your interview with Joseph, you have determined the following facts and impressions.
When asked about people in his life, Joseph identifies:
- His roommate, a male he just met. Joseph does not have a relationship with him as his roommate is often working or at his girlfriend’s house.
- Joseph’s mother lives in a different town and no longer wants anything to do with him.
- Joseph’s father has never been a part of his life.
Additional Information:
Joe is an only child. He left home at age 17 and lived on his own prior to his arrest at age 22. His arrest took place on 15-SEP-2011, and he was charged 22-MAR-2011 for sexual offences he committed between the ages 20 and 21 (July 2009 to September 2010). All the sexual offences involved contact with two boys, Robin, age 12, and Rick, age 13. Robin, Rick, and Joe all lived on the same street and would hang together on warm summer evenings. The neighbours thought that Joe was a bit too old to be spending time with Robin and Rick. Initially, they were just friends; then Joe initiated mutual masturbation. Joe Young has always had social problems and was frequently left out and avoided by his peers. Joe has never had a consensual sexual partner. However, he is quite open when talking about his sexual urges and feelings. He states that he started masturbating early (age 12) and masturbates most days. He claims to primarily think about young people: boys and girls before becoming “all hairy and stinky”. If he does not masturbate, he feels “tense and bad inside”. He says that he often feels bored, tense, and lonely.
Joe graduated from Grade 12 and now works as a grocery store clerk. When he is not working, he spends hours viewing pornographic cartoons. When asked why he claims he is bored and has nothing much to do, he says watching the sex toons makes him feel less lonely. Joe says that he would like to spend time with his old friends (children in his neighbourhood, including the boys he abused), but he cannot because of his convictions. He says that he is less nervous around children than adults.
His lifestyle is highly organized and seems mildly obsessive. For example, he does the same activities at the same time each week (e.g., laundry on Tuesday nights; shopping on Saturday) and gets upset if these routines are disrupted.
He has no criminal convictions other than sexual offences. However, several months before being charged for the crimes against Robin and Rick, he was charged with stealing from the neighbour’s house. He took cigarettes, a small amount of money, and girls’ underpants. Joe did not know the occupants of the house. This incident happened in December 2010 (charged 07-JAN-2011). However, while Joe admits to being in the house, he firmly denies stealing (he claimed to be looking for a friend and got the wrong address). These charges were dropped as part of a plea bargain concerning the offences against Robin and Rick.
Joe started community supervision three months ago. He shows up on time and seems motivated. He describes his offences as “stupid”. He feels terrible that he can no longer talk to Robin and Rick.
Joe smokes (like his mother) but does not drink alcohol or use illicit drugs.
Supervision conditions: No contact with victims, no unsupervised contact with children, residence and employment must be approved by his probation officer. Must adhere to treatments directed by his probation officer.
